State institutions, organizations and NGO’s in Şanlıurfa came together within the framework of Regional Plan 2014-2018
Meeting that takes place in Hilton Garden Inn Otel were attended by representatives of Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning, Ministry of Development, Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanism in Sanliurfa, Sanlıurfa Municipality, Suruç Municipality, Birecik Municipality, Siverek Municipality, Viranşehir Municipality, Karaköprü Municipality, Harran University, Faculty of Architecture, Harran Economics and Administrative Sciences, Provincial Culture and Tourism Directorate, Provincial Special Administration General Secretariat, Provincial Disaster and Emergency Directorate, Directorate of Provincial Administration, Şanlıurfa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Local Agenda 21, Sanliurfa Province Representation of Chamber of City Planners and the GAP Regional Development Administration.
Points that participants agreed at the result of the meetings as follows:
Urban rent must distribute fairly: Applications of urban transformation is sometimes causing elements that created anxiety. It has been developed an approach that takes into account the human element in applications of transformation to prevent this anxiety. Physical transformation is important as like socio-economic transformation. For this reason, İnnovative methods must be developed in order to ensure fair distribution of urban rent among urbanites.
Building Inspections must be performed: It has been experienced serious problem areas within the city that transformed hand with free market economy. Especially, some problems may occur relation to the building inspection process in the new areas of development, stream beds, and flood and landslide risk areas. These type of constructions in these areas should be taken to control.
Urban Transformation should be participative: How to perform the processes of urban transformation of problematic areas in the city (such as Karaköprü) should be determined with coordination and participatory processes of decision-makers in the city. In addition, a plannning study must be carried out throughout the city in order to overcome the problems of agricultural land and pressures on the constructions.
Law for metropolitan municipalities shall be considered: Changes that come with law for metropolitan municipalities shall be considered. Top of the scale of the city's master plan studies be initiated as soon as possible and urban transformation processes need to be addressed with a strategic framework.
